Why "Normal for Your Age" is a Fallacy

In our modern world, men are often told that a declining libido, a softening midsection, a foggy brain, and a loss of their competitive "edge" are just the inevitable taxes of getting older. You are expected to just "get on with it" as your energy slowly erodes.

But this is a biological fallacy. These are not just signs of age; they are signs of Metabolic Interference.

What is Andropause and Why Might You Be Finding it Tough?

​

Unlike women, who experience a sudden, dramatic cliff-edge drop in hormones during menopause, men experience a slow, gradual hormonal erosion known as Andropause.

​

Because the decline is gradual (about 1–2% per year over decades), the symptoms often sneak up on you.

 

"However, if you have a poor nutrition and stressful lifestyle, a male in his 30s can have the testosterone level of a 70 year old"

 

You might start noticing:

​

  • The "Empty Tank": A profound fatigue that isn't cured by sleep; feeling "flat" from the moment you wake up.

  • The "Softening" Physique: Gaining visceral fat around the midsection or chest, even if your diet and gym routine haven't changed.

  • Cognitive "Clumsiness": Brain fog, difficulty finding the right words, or losing your decisiveness.

  • The "Grumpy Old Man" Shift: Increased irritability, low patience, and a loss of interest in hobbies you used to love.

  • The Vascular Warning: A decrease in morning erections or overall libido, which is often the first sign of declining testosterone and poor blood flow.

The Impact of Modern Life on Your Hormonal Engine

So, why is this happening earlier and more aggressively to men today?

​

Just like women, men are navigating a modern soup of stress, ultra-processed foods, and environmental toxins (xenoestrogens). This modern lifestyle creates two massive roadblocks for male hormones:

​

1. The Command Centre Shut Down (The HPTA Axis) - Most men assume their decline is a failure of the "factory" (the testes). In reality, it is usually a failure of the Command Centre (your brain). Your brain constantly monitors your environment for safety. If you are chronically stressed from work, running on poor sleep, or dealing with a highly inflamed gut, your brain decides that vitality and reproduction are luxuries you cannot afford. It shuts down the signal to produce testosterone.

2. The "Oestrogen Siphon" - Every time we eat highly processed foods — specifically the modern "Three Gateways" of Wheat, Dairy, and Refined Sugar — we spike our insulin and create systemic inflammation. High insulin hyper-activates an enzyme in your body called Aromatase.

The sole purpose of Aromatase is to convert your hard-earned Testosterone into Oestrogen. You aren't just "low" on testosterone; your body is actively siphoning it away and replacing it with oestrogen, leading to weight gain, mood changes, and a complete drain of your drive.

So, where do we go from here?

The good news is that we don't have to guess. Standard GP blood tests often look for "disease" and tell you that your levels are "fine" for your age, completely missing how your body is actually metabolising those hormones.
